Editor: Danny Mortensen, of Union, Kentucky, is our newest correspondent.

A veteran of the airline support industries, Danny joins us at a really big moment in his young life. He is the proud..really proud..owner of a classic airplane that will turn heads at any airport it visits in the future. His new/old Waco VKS-7 is just coming out of the shops, all tuned up and ready to go back on parade. Fans of golden age aircraft will love it. But let Danny tell about it in what we hope will be the first of many Letters from Kentucky:

Enjoy.

Letter from Kentucky -- March, 2009

Danny's New/Old Toy.

Jim

NC29372 was manufactured in 1940 in Troy, Ohio. Only 5 were built in 1940. A total of 19 were built between 1937 and 1941 with the Continental W-670M engine (240 HP). That is the same engine found on the Stearman. List price was $8190.00.

Interesting features include a starter switch on the floor instead of a key. The aircraft has roll-down windows! Waco wanted the average guy on the street to feel comfortable in the airplane so they made it like an automobile! This particular model has the wide gear on it. Has dual controls. Most cabin Wacos had a throw-over yoke. Brakes are installed only for the left seat.

This particular airplane was once owned by United Airlines and used as an instrument trainer!

This is my last toy! My wife is now out shopping for a nice diamond of equal value!

Editor: Or so he says. I happen to know that he keeps this little jewel in his garage at home. Danny may not need any more toys:
